Covid Relief Bill Passed December 2020 Pork Barrel or Real Help
So is the latest covid relief bill just a big pile of horse manure?
Well, many people seem to think so.
I suppose, on the surface, it sure seems that way.
After all the bills have been delayed for months due in no small part to Nancy Pelosi simply wanting to do her best to undermine the Trump administration.
That not withstanding the $600 number certainly makes it seem paltry in comparison to the months of lockdowns and restrictions. These restrictions have made it very difficult for people to make ends meet.
I think we do have to take into account that it will be $600 per person. So I believe a family of four would receive $2400.
Here are some more of the rules about how the money will be allotted.
For the unemployed there are continued benefits as well. In addition to their state unemployment they will receive $300 a week from the feds. I’m not sure if there is any extension to the number of weeks people can claim unemployment benefits.
So for a single unemployed person it could total $1800 the first month and $1200 a month thereafter from the feds in addition to state benefits.
What’s Bad?
Well, it seems there is a lot of money that is going out of the country for some, let’s say questionable, causes.
And it’s not small amounts. The amounts are in the 10s of millions to a billion plus.
That is all money that in some way the American people will be footing the bill. At least that’s how I understand it. I’m not an expert by any means but it sure seems like many items are completely unnecessary.
For example, why are they including, in a bill that is supposedly to help the American people, $1.4 billion dollars towards the “Asia Reassurance Initiative Act?”
To me this is what has so many people angered.
I’m thinking they are delaying to get a bill passed that will get money to people in need. Instead they spend 10 months bickering about programs and initiatives that take money outside the U.S. and don’t address the immediate need of those unemployed due to their policies surrounding Covid lockdowns and business closures.
It is all a bit infuriating when you think of it like that. And I think that is how the majority of everyday average citizens think of the bill.
In addition, the 180 billion going to the people is a drop in the bucket.
Equally infuriating is that this part could have been a stand alone bill months ago.
But, again, we have politicians playing games instead of doing what’s best for the American people.
That, to me, is the real reason why so many are rightly ticked off over this bill.
